Mary Theresa (Kerins) LaChance, 91, of Rocky Hill, died peacefully Wednesday, October 10, 2018 with her beloved husband of 60 years, Edward LaChance by her side. A graduate in the class of 1951 from St. Francis School of nursing. Mary was a Registered Nurse at UCONN for 29 years prior to her retirement. Mary and her husband enjoyed their retirement years traveling and golfing. Besides her husband, Mary is survived by many nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law Rose Surdell. She was predeceased by her two sisters, the late Lucille LaPenna and Katherine McGuire. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday 10am directly in St. Josephine Bakhita Church, St. James Campus, 767 Elm St. Rocky Hill. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Family and friends are invited to the Giuliano-Sagarino Funeral Home at BROOKLAWN, 511 Brook St. Rocky Hill, on Friday, October 12 from 6-8p.m. A special thank you to all the staff at Caregiving by Kathy. I had the pleasure of meeting Mary LaChance when I was first hired at the UConn Health Center when I was a newly graduated Registered Nurse and she was my manager.
She was always pleasant and supportive with her staff . Our general medicine unit was an extremely busy place and Mary always had a smile on her face and was there for her staff.
She seemed to have endless energy and endless compassion.
She will be truly missed. She was an extreme asset to the profession of nursing...

Mary LaChance was the nurse manager on the medical floor at UConn Health Center when I started there as a physician 40 years ago. She was a model of excellence in her role as the supervisor and gentle mentor for the entire nursing staff of this busy unit - importantly she also "trained" countless young medical resident doctors by teaching them thoughtfulness in patient management and best practices of how to work along with her superior nursing staff as we cared for the sickest of...
