HERLINDA MCCARTY Reverend Mother Mary Herlinda McCarty was born in Chickasaw, Oklahoma on January 22, 1911, of Claude Sylvester McCarty and Agnes Lorena McCarty, nee Lee. She converted to Roman Catholicism on May 19, 1923, and later entered the Franciscan Daughters of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary. She completed her education after becoming a religious sister, and took perpetual vows in May 19, 1933. Mother Herlinda spent several years on assignment in Rome, Italy, serving also for many years as a teacher. Her association with the Society of St. Pius X began in 1997. In February of 2000, she helped Fr. Eugene Heidt found a new community of teaching sisters, the Franciscan Sisters of Christ the King, governing the community under his guidance until February 2003. Mother Herlinda retired from her post to be cared for by the Sisters. She peacefully passed away September 17, 2006. The Rosary is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the convent chapel, 1409 E. Meyer Blvd., Kansas City, MO with visitation until 8:30 p.m. The traditional Latin Requim Mass will be offered for the repose of her soul on Wednesday, September 20 at 9:00am at the convent chapel. Graveside service and interment will be at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, St. Mary's Kansas. (Arrangements: Muehlebach Funeral Home, 816-444-2060).
