Many of us in Baltimore have Mary Pat stories. Mine took place in 1985 when I was co-chair of the Russian Film Festival at Friends School. I was asked to bring a visiting Russian teacher to a precinct on Election Day so he could experience first hand an American election. Mary Pat arranged a precinct for us to electioneer for her in her district. It was a Black precinct and other electioneering participants were excited and welcoming to meet a Russian. My sincere condolences to the family of Mary Pat Clark, who has been a powerful voice and pioneer in Baltimore City. As a young person, I witnessed her efforts in City hall while she held office, making meaningful changes for many residents of Baltimore, including myself. As an adult, I continue to see women leaders rising, and it all started with her. Thank you for everything you contributed to Baltimore City. You will never be forgotten, and may you rest in peace.

I was Mary Pat's city council aide for a period in her early years on the council, about 45 years ago. It was a great privilege to work with such a dedicated, caring, clear-eyed, amazing soul. Mary Pat treated all constituents as if they were extended family members that she would take care of and assist, without question. She believed in equal treatment for all, and was one of Baltimore city's earliest brave political supporters of civil rights for gay and lesbian people. My heart is filled...
