Mary Sanders

1922 - 2014

Mary Sanders Age 92, of San Rafael, passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 6, 2014, at Nazareth House. She was born in Benld, Illinois on February 11, 1922. She was a graduate of St. Mary's Nursing School in East St. Louis, Illinois. She married James Sanders, a career Air Force Officer, on December 21, 1946. They traveled extensively in connection with his service, finally settling in Marin County in 1966. Mary had a career in nursing and was one of the first nurses employed by Kaiser Hospital when it opened in San Rafael. She and Jim were members of Indian Valley Golf Club in Novato and she had a passion for golf, becoming an avid fan of the Golf Channel after she could no longer play herself. She was also a member of the Retired Officers Wives Club and the Goldenaires, enjoying playing cards with friends and visiting the casinos. Mary was devoted to her family and loved to spend time with them. She is survived by her children; Mary Hyams (Milt) of San Rafael, Jim Sanders (Toni) of Walnut Creek, Mark Sanders of Roseville; grandchildren, Myra Hyams of San Francisco, Jenny Tomlin (Justin) of San Diego, Matt Sanders (Tracy) of Walnut Creek, Milt Hyams Jr. (Robyn) of Truckee, and Mike Hyams (Milena) of San Francisco; and four great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at Nazareth House, 245 Nova Albion Way, San Rafael on Saturday, December 20 at 9:15am.
