Matthew F. Coogan

Oh, Henry. I am so saddened to hear about Matt Coogan. I remember how I used to play his favorite song during my DJ gigs for KP: "Love is in the Air". I'll remember the times I would stop by to join you all at the bar across from KP. (Can't remember the name of the bar, but know that many a great time was had whenever I joined you. Ah, the good 'ol days.


Please extend my heartfelt condolences to the family. I'm sure you will attend the service. I'm sure Jaime and Patricia are...

While most of you probably don't remember me, I worked at Kidder in 1988 and 1989 for Ken Fischler, at 120 Broadway.

As a UNIX guy who fell into a Metaphor DBA role, I knew virtually nothing about the IBM mainframe world, yet was called to task quickly.
I remember Matt's kind smile and congenial ways, as per Ken's suggestion he mentored me through my initial duties. He literally taught me everything I know about COBOL and MVS. And he never made me feel deficient, explaining...

Hi Everyone,
Matt was a great guy and a true original. I can't say enough good about him so I decided to dig up some pictures to remember some the real fun times we had back in the old days.

The one of Matt alone is from 1979 (30 years ago!!) and the other is some of the old gang in 1982. Back row is, Richie, Marlene, Rick, Milli, Dave, Matt (center stage), Tom, Kevin and Marty, bottom is Gabe, Eddie, my friend Liz, Gordon and Paco). Boy, are we all young!!

Matt will be sorely missed - How many remember he tried out for the New York Baseball Giants.

He was always a great guy and a class act.

He was one of the original programmers at Kidder along with Bob Rooney, Ron Ackerman, Lenny Keitel, Rick Dilley, and Jim Burrell.

Pete Mastrangelo, Tommy O'Sullivan were there then also Dave Hevia , Nick Russo, Jaime, Fred Stilo, Percy Edwards and the rest of the crew were Operations.

One of my fondest memories of Matt is him teaching me the Commission system when I was brand new at Kidder – 1986. Also, “there are squirrels in the system” – SQL when DB2 came along.

Well...when I started at Kidder (1976?) my most important function was the afternoon coffee run... for what I think was the entire IT dept (about a dozen or so people). Every day....without fail... Matt would hand me his 50 cents and say "a regular coffee for a regular guy ". To this day I cannot hear someone make a coffee order without thinking of Matt. I'm happy to have that memory. He was truly one of a kind.

I have fond memories of working with Matty at 120 Broadway: his sense of calm during periods of crises, his blue Mr. Rogers-like cardigans, his dedication to his work and loyalty to his friends. Here's to one of the good guys..
