Michael Paul Andersen

Michael Andersen, 76, of Le Mars, Iowa, (formerly of Fremont) passed away Monday, July 14, 2025, at the Good Samaritan Society of Le Mars.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are with the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars, Iowa. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.mauerjohnsonfh.com.

Michael Paul Andersen, the son of Carl and Irene (Rasmussen) Andersen, was born on March 12, 1949, in Fremont, Nebraska where he grew up and attended school.

For many years he worked for his father, driving truck on "the Route" hauling papers for the Omaha World Herald.

He was married for 10 years to Merry Benjamin and to this union, 4 children were born: Theresa, Steve, Jeremie, and Shawn. Several years after their divorce, Michael married Susan Swearingin on February 19, 1978, and to this union, 4 children were born: Nicholas, Jared, Thomas, and Samuel.

Along with the Route, he worked as a deputy for Dodge County, NE and later as a farm hand raising corn, soybeans, and hogs. He loved Jesus, his family, living in the country, and farming.

Hobbies including shooting and fishing. He was a follower of Jesus and spent several years working as a chaplain to the Plymouth County Jail, Plymouth County Home, and the Abbey of Le Mars.

Survivors include his wife, Susan of Le Mars, IA; his children: Theresa Andersen, Steve (Laura) Andersen, Jeremie (Nicole) Andersen, Shawn (Ashley) Andersen, Nicholas (Marsha) Andersen, Jared Andersen, Thomas Andersen, and Samuel Andersen; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; a brother, David (Karen) Andersen; a sister, Donna (Craig) Klingenberg; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings: Carolyn Bales, Nancy Biskeborn, Sue Dahlhauser, Evan 'Toby' Andersen, and Dennis Andersen; and a grandson, Galen McDevitt.
