Mildred Marie
Dutton died on February 15, 2013, at Kindred Hospital. She was born on July 20, 1920 in Texarkana, Texas to William Earl, Sr. and Leah Rawls Earl, who along with her siblings, all predeceased her. She moved to Houston at an early age, after her mother passed away, attended Houston public schools and graduated in the 1939 class of Phillis Wheatley High School. After graduation, she completed two years of study at the Texas State School for Negroes, which later became Texas Southern University. In 1940, she met Harold V. Dutton, Sr. and they united in marriage on March 28, 1941. To this union of fifty-eight years, seven children were born- Rose Blount (James) who predeceased her; Rita Mills (Samuel, deceased); State Rep. Harold V. Dutton, Jr.; Judy Smith (Mack); Virginia Williams (Kirby); Anna Taylor and Cecil Dutton. She has 19 grandchildren, thirty-two great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.
Other than during a brief period when she was employed with the Houston Independent School District, she was a stay-at-home Mom.
After her husband's death in 1999, she continued his legacy of community involvement, including as Precinct Judge in Pct. 160, where their combined service totaled over thirty-years. She always had a warm smile for everyone and her caring attitude was a hallmark of her influence.
A funeral service will be at 11 am on Saturday, February 23, 2013, at The Community of Faith Church, 1024 Pinemont Drive, Houston, TX 77091, with visitation at 9 am prior to the service. Interment will follow at Paradise North Cemetery.

Not sure what to say?

As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.

In loving memory of a wonderful person. We will love you and miss you always.

My heart goes out to you at this time and in the days ahead.

I know you all loved her dearly but God said that her time was up. She had suffered long enough it was time for her to rest. So don't grieve for her,she is at peace with the Lord. She have enjoyed much, good friends, good times, and all loved one's touch. Perhaps her time seemed all too brief, but don't lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your hearts and share her joy. It is written that the Lord will bless those who have faith in him when they die. So he has chosen to reward her with rest...
