Mrs. Shirley Hemphill Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 20, 2012.
Reflections of Life

Shirley Fay Roland Hemphill was born in St. John Colony, Caldwell County, Texas. She was the sixth child of eight children to Henry Clay Roland and Dorothy Daisy Hill Roland.

Shirley was a graduate of Carver High School. She spent over thirty four years in the banking business along with sixteen of those years at Wells Fargo Bank.

Shirley accepted Christ at an early age at the St. John Zion Union Baptist Church and later moved her membership to the St. John Regular Missionary Baptist Church. She served as the Sunday School Secretary, Choir Secretary and Mission II Auxiliary. Shirley loved the Lord, Gods people and she loved her church.

Shirley was united in holy matrimony to C. T. Hemphill on August 3, 1959.

Her favorite pastime was Sports you name the sport and she enjoyed it. She was a sports fanatic. She played softball from an early teen up until the old body says I cant go any further. Not only did she love sports but she also, enjoyed spending time with her sisters (Mae & Betty) when they came home from Anchorage and California. However; there was something else special about Shirley, she was an excellent cook. Everyone looked forward for Thanksgiving and Christmas for her famous dressing, cake and pies.

Her father, mother, one sister, two brothers preceded her in death.

Shirley leaves to cherish her precious memories, her husband of fifty three years, C. T. Hemphill; Two sons, Aubrey (Pamela); Patrick (Regina) both of Coppell, Texas; thirteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two sisters Mae T. Adams (Harvey) of Anchorage, Alaska; Betty J. Bland (Ernest) of Compton, California; three brothers, James Roland of Anchorage, Alaska; Freddie Roland (Caroll) of Austin; Eddie Roland Sr. (Stella) of Austin, Texas; sister-in-laws, Luereece Tennon, Coleen Demps of Austin, Texas; Mary Lee Bell of San Antonio, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

To my Family, the Roland Family, our thoughts and prayers are with you all and also to the Hemphill Family. I am truly going to miss my dearest cousin and friend, Shirley. She was warm, very loving, and had such an infectious smile. I will miss running into her at the stores shopping. Whenever we ran into each other it was always a whole day's conversation with a lot of joking and laughing. We shared the "Roland" love for shopping. Remember we are celebrating a life well lived. Her memories will live on in the hearts of many who loved her dearly. May you all find comfort and peace in knowing that she is resting in the bosom of her Lord. Eddie and Freddie, Shirley treasured all of her time spent with the two of you and she was always talking about the special moments you three shared. She was a special lady with an infectious smile and energetic spirit. I will truly miss her. The thoughts and prayers of the Thompson and Ockleberry families, and most of all, our love is with you all. May each of you find peace in knowing she is at peace and has received her heavenly crown and her long white robe and is singing in the heavenly choir!!! I love you and will miss you, my cousin Shirley. May God be with you all. He will see you through...just trust HIM.

Love,

Joseph&Betty Williams

I cannot tell you how much I will miss Shirley. Seeing her everyday at her desk, greeting everybody with her wonderful smile and positive energy. We loved making each other laugh and telling each other about our kids. There is no one at work that can take her place. Love to all of her family. I will miss hearing about you all, but really most of all, I will miss Shirley.

To CT and Family Members: What a joy that Shirley was a part of our families. She truly was a special lady with a contagious smile! She will be missed, however, she left a legacy of care, concern, and love. Shirey lived life to its fullest and made a positive impact on her circle of influence. Her work on this earth has been completed-A job well done. Now she rests in the arms of God. To God be the Glory!

Sis. Hemphill...my my my. When Dee (First Lady Carter) called and told me of your passing, I just couldn't believe it! You have gone on to be with our Lord. Just saw you a few months ago and as always, you had kind words and an easy smile. You will be missed. Bro. Hemphill, my sincerest condolences...there are no words. I smile every time I think of you chiding me about Geoffrey being adopted by you and Sis. Hemphill. You both welcomed me at 18 into your church family just like Dee and Rev. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.

We'll see you again one day Shirley! Much love! Pam & Makayla

To the family of Shirley ~ I first want to send my deepest sympathy's. I also want to tell you that Shirley was a precious person and I thought a lot of her. It's been several months since I talked to Shirley, however, I worked with her for almost 12 years at WF and I never remember a one of those days that Shirley did not sport the biggest smile ever! She was the sweetest spirited women I had ever known. She knew my daughter all her life shy of 14 months and always wanted a big hug when she saw her - never failed to ask about her - now 14 years later, my daughter is as sad as I am to lose such a special person! I know she is singing with angels and watching over all of us - but she will be sorely missed!

To Shirley's family - I want you to know that she was loved by many people. I will miss her bright smile and happy face and the warmness she spread to whomever she would meet. Shirley never knew a stranger. And I will miss seeing her black Honda zooming down FM812 on her way to work. I know our Lord welcomed her with open arms. She is now a shinning star and an angel to watch over us. My prayers are with her family and many friends who will miss her dearly.
