Muriel Zita Roussell was a loving, caring and devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She left this world to return to her heavenly father on Monday, April 26, 2021 at the age of 83. Muriel leaves to cherish her memory her loving children Jennifer Stamps (Albert), Penelope Williams (Anthony dec.), Michael Roussell, Sr. (Jami), Hilton Roussell, and Lisa Lee (Michael); Nine grandchildren Kendrick Roussell, Donald Roussell, Crystal LaFrance (Bronson), Michael Jr., Ahmad Hill, Eugene Jefferson, Mikalen Roussell, Megan Lee, Malik Roussell, Ashley Lawson and Kenneth Lawson. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, one four-legged grandson (Ruben), and a host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will miss her dearly. Muriel was born on November 28, 1937 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Daughter of the late Hilton C. Roussell, Sr. and Eunice LeDuff Roussell; sister of Dale, Leland, Bruce, Colon, Bryan, and Brenda Roussell Williams; also sister of the late Hilton Anthony Jr., Rosemary, Kenneth, Gary, Patricia, and Judith Roussell Marcelin. Muriel’s faith in God was her foundation. She was a devout Catholic and a long-time parishioner of St. Monica Catholic Church. Later, she began attending Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church which was a short distance from her uptown residence. She always kept God’s light shining bright, even within her home, through two glass candles--St. Jude and Sacred Heart of Jesus--which remained lit at all times as an acknowledgement of her faith and devotion to God. Uptown New Orleans was where Muriel resided for the majority of her life. She loved to sit out on her front porch and talk and laugh with her neighbors. Her house was always a place that her children and grandchildren could call home. Her door was always open no matter the circumstance. Muriel enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved attending family holiday celebrations and having the opportunity to gather with all of her children, grandchildren and siblings whenever possible. You could always count on her to bring her infamous potato salad as well as a deck of cards for a family-friendly game of pitty pat. Spending time with her family was her greatest joy. Her family was her life, and she was most certainly the life of her family. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at Blessed Sacrament-St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 8321 Burthe Street, New Orleans, Louisiana, 70118 at 10:00 am. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am - 10:00 am. All those attending must wear masks. Interment will follow Mass and will be held at Restlawn Park Cemetery and Mausoleum, 3540 US-90, Avondale, LA 70094. You may sign the guest book on www.gertrudegeddeswillis.com.
