Nellie Foss

Nellie Foss, 74, Fargo, ND, formerly Cummings, ND, died on Friday, Dec. 6, 2013 at Essentia Health, Fargo. Nellie Jane Whitmore was born May 30, 1939 at Erie, ND to DeWitt and Amanda (Mitchell) Whitmore. She grew up and graduated from Colgate High School. Nellie moved to Fargo where she worked for Dr. Hahn Eye Clinic. In 1965, she married Donald Stenberg in Fargo. They made their home in Grand Forks, ND and in 1966, he died in a car accident. Nellie married Dwight Foss on Nov. 27, 1971 at Olivet Lutheran Church, Fargo. They lived in Fargo before moving to a farm at Cummings, ND. They farmed until moving back to Fargo in 1991. She worked at the Evergreens, Sleep Inn and recently at Carol Widman's Candy. She loved to play Scrabble, work puzzles and baking. Spending time with the family and grandchildren was the most enjoyable. Nellie is survived by her husband, Dwight; children, Bob (Heather) Foss, Trabuco Canyon, CA, Jeannie (Dan) Gienger, Cedar Rapids, IA and Tim Foss, Moorhead, MN; grandchildren, Branden and Ashlee Hensley, Alec, Aaron, Ryan and Reid Gienger, Marcella and Maxwell Foss; and brother, Mason (Joyce) Whitmore, Hope, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Don; son, Mitchell Joe; and siblings, Don, Milton and LaDonna. Visitation: Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013 from 5 to 7 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM at West Funeral Home, West Fargo. Funeral: Friday at 2 PM at Salem Lutheran Church, rural Cummings, ND.
