Nicholas A. Leondakis 1925 - 2012 WEST SPRINGFIELD - Nicholas Alexander Leondakis, 86 of Stuart, FL and formerly of West Springfield, died Wednesday in St. Vincent Hospital, Bridgeport, CT surrounded by his family. Nick was born in Southbridge, the son of Alexandros and Kyriakoula Malaxanakis Leondakis. At the age of 2 his family moved to Crete, Greece, where he lived until the age of 17 when he and his sister, Anna moved back to Southbridge, MA. As a Regional Manager for Stop & Shop Supermarkets, he lived in West Springfield for many years until his retirement in 1988. Nick moved to Stuart, FL in 1998 where he was one of the founding members of the St John Chrysostom Greek Orthodox Church in Hobe Sound, FL. In his retirement, Nick enjoyed traveling with his wife, Vilma, and working in his garden. He was known for his love of mentoring, master storytelling and ultimately modeling the American dream. He leaves his wife of 59 years Vilma (Kantos) Leondakis; five children Arie Ball of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Alexander Leondakis of Rutland, VT, Niki Leondakis of San Francisco, Mia Keegan of Alamo, CA, and Becky Kaplan of Trumbull, CT, his sister Anna Agathagelakis of Southbridge, MA and Chrisoula Flouris of Crete, Greece. Nick was preceeded in death by his sister Maria Kallergis of Crete, Greece. Nick also leaves 7 grandchildren - Alethea Leondakis, Geoffrey, Marshall and Melanie Kaplan, Arianna, Elaina and Alexander Keegan as well as 11 nieces and nephews. His funeral will be held at the West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home Saturday, August 4 at 10:00am with Liturgy in St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral at 12:00 Noon followed by burial in Oak Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home prior to the church service Saturday from 10:00 - 11:30am. For more details please visit curranjones.com. I am deeply saddened to hear of Mr. Leondakis' passing. He was a wonderful man. I feel blessed to have known him, even if it was just for a short time.
