Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home, Elwood Obituary

Nicholas William “Nick” Haug, age 29 of Elwood, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at his home in Elwood.  He was born September 23, 1988 in Findlay, Ohio, the son of Todd R. Haug and Sheila R. Hoffman.  He was a 2007 graduate of Van Buren High School in Van Buren, Ohio; and went on to earn an Associate degree in Culinary Arts from Ivy Tech College.  He was currently finishing work on a degree in Chemical Engineering.  Through his love of the culinary arts, he was working as a caterer for the “Strengthening Families Program” in conjunction with Intersect, Inc., and he truly enjoyed his work.  He also formerly worked as an ambulance driver for Eaton EMT Service.  Nick was a member of East Main Street Christian Church and the Frankton Masonic Lodge #607.  He enjoyed playing several popular video games and was very well-known in the gaming community for his skills.  Nick was an Ohio State sports fan, an avid Star Trek fan who would have referred to himself as a “Treky”, and enjoyed watching movies.  He was an avid reader, and was especially intelligent about various types of technology.  Nick loved his family, and they certainly loved him.  His life and experiences will never be forgotten.

Nick’s family includes his father and step-mother, Todd R. and Angela Haug of Elwood; mother, Sheila R. Hoffman of Findlay, OH; brother, Todd R. Haug, Jr.; step-brother, Christian Swoveland of Elwood; step-sister, Chynna Swoveland of Bloomington; maternal grandparents, Roy Hoffman and Andry Long; special friend, Becky Gardner; aunts and uncles, Terry Haug, Arthur Haug, Eileen Smick, and Roy Hoffman, Jr.; 7 cousins; and several nieces and nephews.  Nick was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Robert W. (wife Devona P.) Haug; and aunt, Diane Haug.

A funeral service celebrating Nicholas’ life will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Monday, August 27, 2018 at East Main Street Christian Church in Elwood with Rev. Roger Gardner of the church, officiating.  Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Jay County at 2:30 PM on Monday.  Visitation for family and friends will be held from 2:00 to 6:00 PM on Sunday, August 26, 2018, at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood, and will include a Frankton Masonic Lodge memorial service at 5:30 PM.  Memorial contributions are suggested to the Kitchen Fund at East Main Street Christian Church or the Gideons Fund through the funeral home.  Online expressions of condolence may be made at copherfeslermay.com.
