Not sure what to say?

Meeting Norman was a touching moment in my life. I used to waitress at Hotel Jonas, and every Sunday afternoon when business was slower, Norman would come with a bagful of "penny rolls" (tootsie rolls). He would sit and we would talk for and hour or two about everything. He used to pinch my cheek and tell me "You're a good lookin dutch". Norman, I will miss your funny jokes and your singing too. You always had a way of brightening everyone around you. You took your final ride "up" to heaven...

We did not know Norman's name until he passed away, but we referred to him as "the little man" for many years since his first encounter with our family at the Sunset Diner. What I knew to be true is confirmed here as I read this guestbook- Norman was small in stature, but left a large mark in the lives of those he lived among. When our time comes, we should all be so missed as Norman will be. Blessings to his family.

Dear Norman, the Smale Family, his Family, and Friends,
You've touched the lives of so many people! Shortly after moving to the Jonas area a number of years back, we found you at the Sunset, where you immediately approached us and told us your name, then went on telling us your jokes, acting like you knew us for years. Later, our daughter Andrea started working at the Hotel Jonas, came home one night and told us about you. Over the years we watched you wave, swinging your arms,...

NORMAN, YOU WILL BE MISSED BY MANY. ALWAYS ENJOYED YOUR COMPANY, AT THE DINER OR AT THE STORE, LOVED YOUR ELEPHANT JOKES AND SONGS, KEEP ON TELLING JOKES AND SINGING. YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.

I met Norman several years ago at the Smale's Farm Store. Whenever Norman was there, he would ask me if I was "going up or down." But no matter what direction I was going, Norman would always being going in the same direction. He either wanted to be dropped off at the Jonas Market or Hotel. I will miss Norman's jokes and his little ditties. God bless you, Norman. I know you went directly into heaven. There was no "going up or down" for you. You went directly "UP". You will be sadly missed.

Hollenbach Family, I met Norman many years ago, when he became friends with my brother LeRoy Serfass. I have many memories of your family farm, picking potatoes and then your mother feeding everybody. I remember the homemade bread(I can still smell it.) We saw Norman many times over the years and he always had a joke and a story. Ilost my brother a few years ago, so I know Norman and my brother are catching up on stories and jokes. Our Condolences to the Hollenbach Family. Barbara Serfass Howell

I was truly saddened when my husband called to tell me of Norman's passing.

You were truly a special and one of a kind person who I will miss dearly. Like people previously mentioned, we shared rides, jokes and smiles. You were always trying to buy me something at the store, so generous, always asking for a movie date with my mother in law and always sang me wonderful ditties. I will miss your presence here on earth...but will look above to see you joking with others and...

I first met Norman when I moved to this area about 20 years ago. He was the nicest person I ever met. May he rest in peace.

Dearest Norman, you will be sorely missed. However, you are now entertaining the "higher" entities -- angels and, perhaps, Our Lord. I am sure your contagious sense of humour and your "family-oriented" jokes are a big hit up in the heavens. Rest in peace, dear man, you have brightened more than a dozen grey days for me. Whenever I saw you standing in front of the Farm Store and at the Diner, I could be sure of a happy and entertaining co-pilot; for you were always full of jokes and happy...
