Pat was the girl cousin my age. Her family, as well as my other cousins' families, lived close to our grandparents (Roscoe and Minnie Eckard) on St. Peter's Ch. Rd. in Conover. My family lived west of Hickory in Longview. I guess our cousins considered us "city girls". It was my joy each summer to spend as much time as possible at our grandparents farm. Pat was amazed that I couldn't climb a tree. She did her very best to teach me how to climb up into those big trees. Pat would be proud that I can still climb into any tree that I can get a foothold on and can still help unload a wagon full of hay bales. Pat had a smile that would light up her face and a twinkle in her eye that would make you wonder what she was thinking and planning to do next. Things will be a little more somber now - we'll just have to remember to laugh more - that's what Pat would want.

It breaks my heart to lose such a wonderful friend. Pat was so much fun and always smiling. I have cut Pat's hair for the last several years and I am not a hairdresser. I am not sure why she trusted me. I will never forget our trips to Hilton Head and Myrtle Beach. She would cook for all of us and we loved it!! I will miss you so much!!! Love you.....
