Not sure what to say?

I feel Coach was a mentor to so many, and always enjoyed him coming to our reunions, and the picnic reunions. I know he also enjoyed them. You will be missed by many and I know if there is a heaven that's where you are, along with Tom Bullock, another good swimmer.

God bless you Coach,

Message below(dated March 16th) from Lin Nelson, Diving Coach, Laney College. I now live at Lake Tahoe. I was blessed to have time with Paul in Windsor, before his move to Walnut Creek.

To my colleague, mentor, and dear friend, Paul: thank you for enriching my life, for providing much love and laughter -- you will always be part of it.

Shep, You were more than a coach, you were a Father figure to many of us, if it wasn't for you a lot of us were headed to Jail if not worst. Me included. I will always be thankful. You may be gone, But never forgotten
Paul Hamilton "57"

I well always have great memories. I ehink that one I will always remember, the summer that I lifeguard for as a volunteer. We had some great conversation, and a 6-pack in the fridge. All I can say is that I am glad no one went under. Great Summer, it is sad that there will be no more

Thank you "Shep". I will always be grateful for the guidance and friendship you had with me. I will never forget you...your legacy will live on.

You are loved and will be missed RIP

Please like, share and share memories & photos of Shep on his Facebook Tribute Page, thank you

Paul 'Shep' Chappelle died this morning (5 March 2014 - 6.00 am PST). . .he was a much loved swimming coach from Laney College, Oakland City College, Castlemont High School and Indiana University.
He was the first coach in the California Community College System to allow a woman on the men's swimming and diving team (there was no women's team). I am proud to say that was me. I dove 1M, 3M and swam the 200 butterfly. Why would I swim the 200 fly you ask? Because Shep asked me too...

We knew him as Chappie and did we have fun growing up in SLZ. Your dad could always take the party up a notch. Your folks were always great friends to my folks.
