To Maureen and family: I have only just learned of Paul's passing, and I am flooded with the joy of so many memories of my time knowing your whole family during my several years at Civic. While I concur with all the sentiments about his undisputed legacy as director/sound and light person, my lasting memories will also include his love of classical music. Thanks for ALL the memories Paul and your beautiful family. May his soul rest in peace.

Dear Maureen, I am so saddened to hear of Paul's sudden passing. He had such a huge effect on the arts and people he worked with that he always felt immortal to me... so he shall be in our hearts. May your Guardian Angels help you through this time of grief.

The Mitchell family sends its love and sympathy. We have known Paul almost our entire lives and have had the privilege of experiencing the work and wit of one of the local area's great artists. We miss him already, and it's a great loss for the GR theater community. Our best to Maureen, Catherine and Paul II.

You have my deep sympathies and consolation, Maureen and children. Faith, family and friends will share this new life journey with you. It is a walk I know: Big Jim departed suddenly in Jan. 2009 at 60. Life is short, but love is long.

paul taught the craft of stage, and to embrace the magic in the creation of the moment. from peers, to actors to tech, it's no wonder grand rapids is the benchmark for community theater.
one can see why the following was from one of his favorites...he seemed to exemplify that rule of life.
“It is not in doing what you like, but in liking what you do that is the secret of happiness.”
