McKUSICK, Paul Stephen, born July 22, 1927, went home to be with the Lord on his 86th birthday, July 22, 2013. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Shoemaker McKusick, having just crossed the mark of 65 years married on June 15, 2013. Also surviving are his two sisters, Jean Soeder and Myfanwy Ioli; and his brother, Robert McKusick; and his children, Brian McKusick, Eve Wickizer and Ilona ter Horst. In addition are seven of nine nieces and nephews and their families, 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Paul lived a long and full, Godly life. Born in California in the roaring 20s, he moved to Globe-Miami, Ariz. area during the Great Depression. He became a pilot of small aircraft while still in high school; he graduated as Salutatorian of his Globe High School Class of 1945; he volunteered for the U.S. Navy during WWII, trained in advanced electronics and served until just past the war's end; returned home, married in 1948, and ran a custom building business until 1995. They moved to Midlothian, Va. in 1995. He worked for Ukrop's at Harbor Pointe from 1995 until his 80th birthday in 2007. He maintained an active, faithful life in his church, community and nation, serving as an elder in First Presbyterian Church, Globe, Ariz. and Christ Presbyterian Church, Richmond, Va.; also as a member, Globe Rotary Club and the Republican Party. He maintained his great sense of humor and his love for people right up to the end. He will be sorely missed. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 26, at 6:45 p.m. at Sycamore Presbyterian Church, 510 Coalfield Rd., Midlothian. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations be made to the U.S.O., the Wounded Warrior Project, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Smile Train, or to a charity of your choice.
