Freshman year in high school (1970/'71) was a lonely year for me. Paul was a bright light in it. I felt loved by him, respected, appreciated. 3 years older than me, a friend of my brother Lu's, he kidded with me. He found my eating of a favorite Bartnick snack -- Polish "farmer's cheese", spread with butter and sprinkled with salt -- to be absurd. "Cheese and butter!... Cheese and butter!..." he exclaimed.
