Not sure what to say?

I was just thinking about Peter and decided to google him. So sad to hear that he had passed. I worked with him on Wednesday night for many years at Central Health Center. What a lovely man he was...

I stumbled across the sad news of Dr. Smith's death just now, 14 months after his passing, by one of those serendipitous connections. I had not seen or been in contact with him since my graduation from Brown Medical School in 1991, but I never forgot what a thoughtful, kind, intellectually curious and widely-interested person and physician he was. He was one of the great ones: he was intellectually voracious, loved the arts as much as the sciences, never failed to be kind and patient with...

Peter was the person who suggested I become a Fellow with him and Dr. Forman, changing my career path. Peter was a terrific teacher, a profoundly caring and inciteful physician, and a terrific researcher and advocate for the hemophilia population during the early and terrible years of the AIDS epidemic. Well beyond all that, he was a marvelous, fun, and caring friend who was deeply devoted to his family. My deep condolences to them, and to all who miss Peter.

Dr. Smith was indeed a special physician. In 1985, Peter set up the first pediatric Hospice Home Care case for my nephew. It made such a difference for our family in caring for Bobby. Peter's loving care went so far that he even made a home visit when I called one frantic evening. Aside from that personal experience, I worked with Peter for a short time at the Providence Community Health Center on Cranston Street where he provided general pediatric care. Dr. Smith touched so many lives...

Heartfelt condolences. He was full of song and a delight to all who enjoyed making music and the harmonies so represented.

Dear Smith Family,

It was an honor spending time with Peter the last few months. He always greeted me with a wide smile and handshake that I looked forward to every week. I will always be thankful for the opportunity I had to meet him and all of you. He will never leave my memory.

RIP Peter

It has been 23 years since our child was treated in pediatric oncology. Dr. Smith was in the department at the time but not our child's doctor. When I saw this obituary, I immediately recognized him. He had a memorable quality about him and I liked him. I know you will miss this special human being.
