Phenia Miriam Reed of Waxahachie, Texas, formerly Tyler, Texas, passed away on May 12, 2020 at the age of 86, following a brave battle with cancer.
Phenia was born on June 20, 1933 in Lindale, Texas to John L. (Pap) and Bettie Prater of Lindale, Texas. She graduated from Lindale High School. As a young woman, she was a manager at the Style Lark in Bergfeld Center in Tyler. She loved market trips to New York City, Dallas, and Los Angeles and was fiercely dedicated to matching each customer with the perfect selection.
She married Robert West Reed on November 21, 1963 and thereafter devoted her life to making a loving home for her family and raising their daughter. Phenia had a keen sense of style, charming wit, and a generous, loving heart. She was a successful self-taught stock market investor, a gifted decorator, and an avid bargain hunter. She refused to “pay retail.” She was a precious blessing and will be forever in our memory.
Phenia is survived by her daughter, Kelly Reed and Lisa Baker of Wayne, Oklahoma; and sister-in-law, Ernestine Whipple of Paris, Texas; as well as beloved nieces and nephews-in-law and a host of treasured friends. She is preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Robert West Reed; parents, John L. (Pap) and Bettie Prater of Lindale, Texas; brother Wayne F. Prater of Paris, Texas; and sister, Mary Francis Larson of Amarillo, Texas.
