The rules of life according to Phil Guza: Cats are the worst, never waste time planning and never ever leave home without your suspenders.

At 54, Mr. Guza, a client specialist for Aon, the insurance brokerage, did not seem to mind that his habits made some people laugh. He loved to live life his way, arranging vacations with his sons, Tom and Pete, where the only arrangement he would actually bother to make was buying plane tickets. The rest of the details -- the hotel, the rental car -- were left to chance.

"It was hilarious the way we'd get on a plane and just show up," said Mr. Guza's oldest son, Tom. "He'd get a car and we would just drive until we found a cheap motel or some interesting museum. Dad wasn't much for planning."

Except when it came to his diet, a buffet of burritos, potato chips, Ragú pasta sauce, pickled herring, canned mackerel and loads of Tabasco sauce on everything, especially crabs. The crabs he insisted on catching himself several times a month, with his sons in tow of course, during trips along the Shrewsbury River in New Jersey. No one is sure how Mr. Guza, a native of Philadelphia, came upon crabbing as a hobby. It was just one of his many quirks, like his hello and goodbye hugs or the voice mail message he left for his son Tom as he watched smoke gush from 1 World Trade Center. "It's a great show up here. I can see the whole thing," the message said.

Not sure what to say?

Mr. Guza,

While I never have met you, I do have the pleasure of being a coworker with your son, Peter. I find myself every year pouring over pictures, videos & documentaries of 9/11. My heart aches for you and everyone involved or touched by the horrendous event. Just my 2 cents...you had a big part in raising a fine man in Peter. His wit, work ethic, love for family and running is unmatched. I am Proud to call him a friend. Be sure this day will never be forgotten and you along...

Worked with Phil And Barbara Guzzardo "over the phone" for a couple of years. Sending prayers to the families for continued strength and comfort. NOT FORGOTTEN!!!!!

Remembering and keeping Phil and his family in prayer on the 20th anniversary of 9/11. I worked with Phil for a number of years and truly respected his work ethic. I hope the family takes comfort during such a challenging time.

You're still in my memories - never to be forgotten. Rest In Peace Phil

Visited the memorial on 10/19/19 and thought I would share this.

We visited the pool on 10/19/19 and wanted to share.

Today I visited the 9/11 Memorial and searched for my mother's AON friends. Even though you knew each other only by phone conversations you will never be forgotten. It givea me joy to see how your memory lives on through you family. Rest in peace. Dios los bendiga.

We send our deep sympathy to your family. Phil will always be fondly remembered. May the time finally come when this kind of violence will be ended for all time.

Continuing to remember you all!!! Prayers for peace and comfort.
