Phil was a founder and guiding hand of SWTrails for many years. Many of the connection built by SWTrails are there due to his hard work and leadership. We miss him! Don Baack

Rosie, Sad news travels slowly; I just heard about Phil's passing. Phil was so much a part of WHUUF. . .Although I have not been there in almost 9 years, I will always remember him - and you - with great affection. Deepest and most sincere sympathy.

Phil hired me to work for the BLM EIS team in 1976. Otherwise, I might not have ever come to Oregon. He took a chance, not only hiring a woman, but we had the same last name. After retirement, I sometimes came across him on the trail at Tryon Creek S.P.I never thought there would be a time when he wouldn't be there.

He had a sense of social justice and didn’t mind stepping up when he saw something in need of correction. He treated...

Phil was an important inspiration to me and our SWTrails Organization. His understanding how bureaucracy works and how to work with and around it was important in the early days of our work. As Construction Leader he led the construction projects to put in place many of the key trail connections to make the network we have today.
Thanks for being a part of our lives.
