Several of Phil's tennis buddies were out on the Exeter Recreation Center courts during these "mild" January days on the one-year anniversary of Phil's death. He is always with us. When we make an errant shot, we often ask, "What would Phil advise?" He was such a special friend to me in the few years that I knew him, both on and off the court. Our conversations were always wide-ranging and insightful, typically touching on politics, history, culture, psychology, sports, religion,...

My condolences to Michele and her family, and Gary and his family. I feel like I know you all because, trust me, Phil told stories and bragged about all of you. I met Phil on a Loose Park tennis court. But as the many who called him friend experienced, the friendship soon expanded into countless areas of life. Time spent with Phil was an adventure. Conversations certainly ended far from where their starting point and always with funny and exciting detours along the way. I treasured Phil's...

Getting to know Phil, playing tennis with him, and engaging in always interesting and wide-ranging conversations--either on the phone or during his several visits to our backyard on the banks of the Exeter River--were among my greatest joys during our three years in Exeter from 2018-2021. Almost every conversation touched on politics, languages, psychology, philosophy, human nature, tennis, and his beloved Kansas City Chiefs. Recently, he told me that he wished he would just fade away one...

Philip was of my greatest friend of all time. Every morning he came into my cubicle to chat in Spanish and he always share with me a lot of things and always was so attentive and an unique human being. He always shared with me a newspaper that was half in English and half in Spanish. I always talk of him to my wife, because he was unique and I he was like a father figure for me. My most sincere condolences to the whole family, he was an exceptional person.
