Phillip James Calais, Sr.

LAFAYETTE - Funeral Services will be held at a 10:30 am Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at St. Francis of Assisi for Phillip James Calais, Sr., 69, who passed away on May 11, 2012 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center.

Reverend Joseph J. Campion, Pastor of St. Francis of Assisi, will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services.

Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery.

Mr. Calais, a resident of Breaux Bridge, LA, was the son of the late Henley Calais of Breaux Bridge, Louisiana and the former Mary Pete. He was a member of St. Francis of Asissi. Philip had a profound passion for horses. He has been in the horse racing industry since he was 15 years old and as trained horses for over 40 years. He has traveled all over to train and spent his final years in the Louisiana Racing Industry mostly in Lafayette and Vinton.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Joyce S. Calais of Breaux Bridge, LA; one daughter Sandra Calais of Carencro, LA; two sons, Phillip Calais, Jr. of Breaux Bridge, LA and Casey Calais of Breaux Bridge, LA; three grandchildren, Kash McMahon, C.J. McMahon, and Monique Citizen; two sisters, Audrey Calais and Marjorie Dean; and three brothers, Louis Calais, Adley Calais, and Norris Calais.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Bryan Calais.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette on Friday, May 18, 2012 from 4:00 pm until 10:00 pm and on Saturday from 8:00 am until the time of service. A rosary will be recited Friday evening in the funeral home at 6:00 pm.
