J M Wilkerson Funeral Establishment, Inc. - Petersburg Obituary

Preston Dwayne Newbey beloved son of the late Mrs. Linda Ann Hawkins completed his assignment on earth November 17, 2024. He leaves to mourn a beloved and dedicated wife, Mrs. Chenoa D. Newbey. Preston was born in Richmond, Virginia, on November 6, 1971, and later relocated to Sicklerville, New Jersey. His life’s journey has been a testament to the power of love, dedication, kindness, unwavering faith and commitment.

He was the proud father of Ms. Jazmyn Walloe and Patryce and grandchildren, Simeon and Saaphe each of whom are a reflection of his boundless love and the values he held dear. He also leaves to cherish in loving memories his stepfather, Mr. John Hawkins; brother, Mr. Desmond Hawkins (Marcia); and his fur baby, Meatball; parents-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. His legacy of love extended to all that knew him.

He was educated in the Petersburg Public School system. Preston made lasting friendships that withstood the test of time. For over 15 years, he dedicated his work life to Leonardo Helicopters (Logistics Service).  His work garnered respect, admiration, and a cascade of accolades, but his true reward was the countless smiles and friendships he made through his service to others. As a practicing Christian, he yearned for knowledge an understanding through God’s Wisdom. Preston was a testament to his spiritual devotion. Baptized in his youth, he found strength and solace within his faith and allegiance unwavering until his final day.

His legacy was one of enriching lives and empowered spirits. Preston was a remarkable person whose life was a vivid portrait of love in action. His story does not end with his passing but continues in the hearts of those he touched. He leaves us not with a sense of loss but with a profound sense of gratitude for the time we were blessed to share with him. As we celebrate his homecoming, we are reminded that our own paths can be just as impactful. Let us honor his memory by embodying the values he lived by-kindness, dedication, and love. His life was a masterclass in making a difference, one heart at a time. Let his life inspire us to be the rainbow in the clouds of those around us, just as he was in ours.

Services will be held 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, November 26, 2024 in the Chapel of J. M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment, Inc., 102 South Avenue, Petersburg, VA, the Rev. Phillip E. Knight, Sr., eulogist.  The interment to follow at Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery.
