Not sure what to say?

I feel very lucky and honored to have had the opportunity to know and work with Dr. Kaul. I am grateful for his wisdom and patience, and his ability and willingness to share them. His guidance and support have enabled me to become a better student and a better person. I will always remember him and try to make him proud.

I am so very saddened with the news that Professor Kaul is no more.

I was fortunate to know him since last 10 years, as a student assistant and a friend. I found in him a true learner with an extremely sharp mind, a compassionate human being, a gentle soul, and a die hard friend.

It was Professor Kaul whose kind intervention and timely action saved my career and helped me reshape it in a best possible way. I learned so much from my association with him through assisting...

Dr. Kaul was my undergraduate advisor in the old engineering science department in the early 70's. He was extremely talented and inspired me to study applied mathematics and mechanics. He exposed me to many, many areas of applied mathematics and got me excited about the field. He inspired me to complete my Ph.D. which I did at Caltech after leaving UB. Dr. Kaul also motivated me to pursue a career as a professor and I have spent my entire life in that career doing research and trying to work...

I first met Raj Kaul in 1968 when he joined the former Engineering Science Department. I had joined it in 1966. There is little I can add to the tributes already entered here except to say that Raj inspired a love of learning in everyone who met him. We used to talk of many things, including his fellow Indian mathematician, Ramanujan, whom he resembled in some ways, but not in others. In particular, Raj adapted to Western society and did live to a ripe old age.

I am very sorry he...

Dr. Kaul was the most brilliant mathematician I've had the privilege to meet. Any student in the Electrical Engineering department at UB who wanted to learn more math could do no better for themselves than to learn from Dr. Kaul.

Many students don't want to learn any more math than is necessary to get by. They are the unfortunate ones. The rest of us, those that were able to spend any time learning from Dr. Kaul, or just being his friend, we ought to celebrate our luck to have...

Professor Kaul is the finest gentlemen I have ever met. His intelligence was shear genius. His character was one of kindness, humbleness, and compassion. He was a dedicated teacher and professor of mathematics for over 4 decades. He taught each individual person who crossed his path imparting his knowledge and sharing his patience until the student understood the complicated mathematical theorems. He was a delight to work for and I will miss his calm easy voice. My condolences to the...

In every interaction I've ever had with Dr. Kaul, I've walked away admiring him more than the last time. He was a wonderful man and hope he rests in peace. My sympathies go out to his friends and family on their loss.
