I was shocked to hear from Shelby of Ray's passing, but I sensed that something was amiss when I hadn't heard from him in a long while. We never met, nor even talked on the phone. Ours was a literary friendship in the truest sense, and I'm in his debt for endorsing and supporting my own writing, as I tried to do with his. Forgive me for writing (instead of going to see you and to be at Ray's memorial today): Linda (Nin) is pretty much immobile and I am her caregiver and must be with her.
