Conboy-Westchester Funeral Home - Westchester Obituary

Richard “Richie” Lyons Jr. of Cicero, Illinois age 87 beloved father of Denise Lyons, loving grandfather of Montgomery Lyons and Giuseppe Lyons. Cherished son of his late father, Richard P. Lyons and his late mother Anna P. Lyons. Dear brother of Marie Sebek, Martha Halstead, Lucille Lyons, Robert Lyons, the late Carmella Kuska, Raffaela Wilde, Dolores Collins, and fond uncle, cousin, and friend to many.

Richie was a true son of Chicagoland, born in Berwyn and raised in Cicero. He spent his entire life entertaining in the city he enjoyed and loved, “Chicago”. He attended Lincoln Grammar School and Morton East High School in Cicero. Richie proudly served six years in the Illinois Army Reserves, completing basic training at Fort Leonard Wood in the Missouri Ozarks and active duty at Fort Polk in Leesville, Louisiana.

A man of hard work and loyalty, Richie dedicated over 40 years as a butcher at Jewel-Osco while winning numerous awards and becoming a trusted face in his community. After retiring as a butcher he wanted to be able to watch his beloved Chicago sports teams, so he decided to work as a VIP Usher at the United Center and White Sox Park. Serving for the Chicago Bulls, Blackhawks, White Sox, numerous concerts, and special events. He was especially proud to have worked the Chicago Bulls “Last Dance” NBA Championship 1997-98 season. As well as the Chicago White Sox World Series championship 2005. In 2001, Richie was selected from thousands of employees as the “All Star of the Year” (Employee of the Year).

Every Sunday, Richie could be found selling goods at Swap-O-Rama in Alsip, sharing stories and laughs. He loved Las Vegas, where he became the originator of the cabana pool party. He was well known in the local Chicago casinos and knew every type of slot machine available. He was a connoisseur of every good restaurant in town especially his desire for Bohemian, Italian, Greek, and his love for a good hot dog. A lifelong fan of the Cubs, Bears, Blackhawks, and Bulls, he cheered for Chicago through thick and thin.

Richie will be remembered for his willingness to help others, consistent presence, his quiet strength, and his deep pride in his family and the city of Chicago. He lived his legacy through service, showing up, and putting in the work every single day.
