Not sure what to say?

Although our lab has since moved from Hershey, we fondly remember Dr. Courtney and were so sad to hear he had passed away. He was a great scientist and teacher and will be greatly missed.

Please accept my deepest condolences. Dick was a mentor and a dear friend. We shared many a laugh and enjoyed meeting challenges as co-leaders of the Academic Team years ago. Dick was a role model as an educator. He set the bar for departmental leadership being involved in undergraduate education; I was so impressed that he sat in on every Micro lecture. Now all course directors follow that practice. He wore the heavy cloak of leadership with grace. I never saw him with anything other than a...

I remember the good times from High School and give thanks that the school was small enough that everyone was friends, where everyone knew each other. Since everyone went separate ways after High School, it was great to be able to attend the class get together's and get caught up on each other's lives and play a little golf. God be with his family and friends while they gather around to celebrate his life.

It was a sad day when I received word of
Richard Courtney passing on 11 April 2018. I went to the same school, played on the same play ground, and had the same teachers as Richard. When with Richard I never had to watch my back, and with his reassuring smile, he always was a friend, and gave me the feeling he was one I could consider a friend, and a gentleman. After public school regrettable our paths never crossed again, Richard`s path in health care, and my...

Dick was a true gentleman expressing his personal among everyone with whom he touched. I had the opportunity to play golf with him in his retirement and I will sorely miss interacting with him. He was a devoted father and husband as demonstrated by the smile on his face whenever he would talk about his family.
God must have a special place for Dick in heaven. Dicked graced everyone. He was a joy to the world!

I am deeply saddened by the loss of Dr. Richard Courtney. I was associated with Dick for 13 years, when I was a faculty member in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, Penn State College of Mecidine. Dick was a well-accomplished scientist, a great leader and mentor, and a wonderful person and friend. He will remain forever in my memory!

Tev and I, as so many others, were deeply saddened when we heard of Dick's death. We have had the privilege your and Dick's friendship for over five decades and we will miss him greatly. What we will always remember, on the professional side, was Dick's work ethic and dedication to scientific discovery. His published works and his acknowledged contributions to the field remain as a testament to both. On the personal side we will remember his compassion, genuine friendliness, and love of...
