Richard Carl Giske

GISKE, Richard (Dick) Carl Born August 31, 1931 in Prince Rupert, BC, the only child of Richard and Sofie (Asprem) Giske, who emigrated from Norway in the 1920's. Dick was proud of his Norwegian ancestry. He was pre-deceased in 2000 by his daughter Michele. Left behind are his wife of fifty-one years, Shirley; daughter Karen, her husband Howie and daughter Jocelyn; Michele's daughter Rakel and her sister Abby plus many cousins both in BC and Norway. For thirty-eight years, Dick worked for the B.C. Forest Service, Engineering Division as an engineering assistant and then a property negotiator, during which time he travelled to most corners of the province. He had wonderful stories of those years and enjoyed the camaraderie of a great group of co-workers. Dick spent many hours in our home of forty-six years - working in the garden, maintaining, repairing and upgrading the house. He even re-roofed the house one summer after researching the right way to do it, as he did with any new challenge he wanted to tackle. He spent many hours in his work shop, as he truly loved working with his hands, especially with wood. He was a perfectionist and produced some special pieces, both furniture and smaller projects. He was a gentle man and a gentleman, a special husband and father. We will miss him in our lives but are grateful for the memories he has given us. Thank you to the kind and caring staff at Oak Bay Lodge, who looked after him so well the last seven months of his life. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 20th at 2:00 p.m. at First Memorial Funeral Services, 4725 Falaise Dr. If you wish to make a donation, Oak Bay Lodge, Beckley Farm Lodge or the Epilepsy and Parkinson's Society all helped greatly in his struggle with Lewy Body Dementia & resulting Parkinson's.
