'The Mayor of Con Ed'
The welders and laborers called Richard Morgan the Mayor of Con Ed. Though he was vice president of Con Ed's emergency management, his shoes were muddy from going down into manholes and basements, said Glenn Morgan, his eldest child. "He would say: `It's not the people with the fancy white shirts that get things done.' "

He liked to take Glenn and his other children — Kevin, Cathy and Colleen — through Con Ed plants. "He'd say: `This is the plumbing for the city,' " Glenn said. " `This guy is making sure there's enough gas for the building. If this cable were to break because of a flood, that guy would throw a switch and the stock market could open.' He told us the story of what makes the city hum."

When one of his daughters, at college in Philadelphia, called for help with calculus, he drove from the family home in Glen Rock, N.J., with a copy of Calculus for Beginners.

After the 1993 trade center bombing, Mr. Morgan said it was a matter of when, not if, they would try again, said his wife, Patricia. On the morning of Sept. 11, he was pushing through crowds to get to the Con Ed substation on Liberty Street and was killed when the north tower collapsed. He was 66, an age when most people are retired.

Not sure what to say?

Sending our continued sympathy to your family for the loss of Mr. Morgan. May our words show that others still do care about your loss even though much time has passed. Daily may God continue to give the help needed. He will be sadly missed.

Looking through the victim memorials online from my bed on the other side of the world tonight trying to understand the human cost of Sept. 11 paid by the innocent, I came across Richard's. His story really helped me to understand and it makes my heart ache for it. I just wanted to write a msg saying I will never forget Richard Morgan's name, who he was, and what he did. Not now that I know the price. I will remember.

To the family of Richard Morgan: I still carry a photo of Dick Morgan. It's been a long 15 years. I have been fortunate enough to have been selected to be in the new book, "9/11 Memorial Visions" by Lester Levine. It will be my pleasure to send the Morgan family a copy. Best address please.

Shortly after 9/11 my church, St Mary of Sorrows, Fairfax, Va. printed every name on little stripes of paper and folks picked from the pile. I picked Richard Morgan's name. I keep his name close posted in my kitchen cabinet so when I open the door I think and pray for him and his family.

My thoughts and prayers are with your family today.

It's been 14 years. I have never forgotten my brief encounter with Dick. And I will never forget him. I am the artist of the painting shown in the Guest Book.

God Bless Dick and Pat. I have visited the Empty Sky Memorial several times to pay my respects and to pray for a better world. I have one consolation, I am certain Dick and Pat are there, already.

In Memory
With Honor & Respect.

Thinking of you and honoring your legacy during this special time..RIP Dick, thank you for your services. Until we meet again. .
