Robert L. Ballou, a lifelong resident of Reading, died March 8, 2015 at the Wilmington Health Care Clinic in Wilmington. He was 87 years of age. Robert was born in Reading on May 28, 1927, the son of the late Henry O. and M. Gertrude (Stratton) Ballou.

Robert was a member of the Old South United Methodist Church in Reading. He was a retired Mechanical Assembler for AGFA prior to which he worked for Worcester Paper Box and David Mann Co. He loved wood working, cooking and going on motor coach tours with his late wife Phyllis. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge, Mystic Valley Camping Chapter and the Shuffling Smoothies Square Dance Club.

Robert was the beloved husband of 59 years to Phyllis M. (Hyslip) Ballou who predeceased him in 2008. He was the devoted father of Leslie J. Ballou of Wakefield; Bruce H. Ballou of Weare, NH; Cheryl Bucknam of Reading; Keith E. Ballou of Wakefield; Kevin G. Ballou of Wilmington; Karen Webster of Pittsboro, NC; and the late Robert L. Ballou, Jr. Brother of the late Willard Ballou and Barbara Eckelsten. Loving grandfather of 11 and great grandfather of 7.

A funeral service celebrating his life will be held on Friday, March 13 at 11:00am at the Douglass, Edgerley and Bessom Funeral Home 25 Sanborn St. (corner of Woburn St.) Reading. Burial to follow at Forest Glen Cemetery, Reading. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Funeral Home visiting hours will be held Thursday from 4-8pm.
