Boyd Robert Emmett Boyd, Jr., age 87, of Columbus, OH and Fort Lauderdale, FL, passed away September 24, 2013 at First Community Village in Columbus. He was born July 26, 1926 in Columbus, OH, the son of Robert and Charlotte (Hays) Boyd. He was a 1944 graduate of Grandview Heights H.S. During WWII, he served in the U.S. Merchant Marines receiving both the Atlantic and Mediterranean Combat Ribbons. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Coast Guard in 1946. He graduated from The Ohio State University with a B.A. Degree and from The Ohio State University Law School with L.L.B. and J.D. Degrees. He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He practiced law in Columbus, Ohio for over 50 years and for 20 of those years with his son, Robert, as Boyd & Boyd. He was active in Republican politics, serving as Parliamentarian of the Ohio House of Representatives, Chairman and Member of the Ohio Board of Tax Appeals, First Assistant Ohio Attorney General, Special Counsel to the Ohio Attorney General, and General Counsel to the Ohio Building Authority. As a young man, he was an Eagle Scout and a member of the Order of the Arrow. He was a member and former President of Scioto Country Club, a member of The Columbus Club, and Lauderdale Yacht Club. He and Janet were avid boaters and enjoyed spending time together on their boat and cruising with friends. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his step-sons, Frank Pierce, III and David Pierce. Bob will be missed by his loving wife of 51 years, Janet Powell Boyd; children, Robert E. (Brenda) Boyd, III, Susan Boyd (Jeffrey) Miller, Julia Boyd, and Cheryl Boyd (Stephen) Schick; grandchildren, Sara Boyd (David) Smith, Robert E. Boyd, IV, Katherine Boyd (Patrick) Winkel, John Boyd, James Miller, Lindsey Miller, Robert Miller, Samantha Miller, Briana Hopkins, Grant Schick, Erich Schick, Kyler Schick, Jeffrey Pierce, Emily Pierce (Dan) Manley, and Tyler Pierce; and siblings, Charlotte Ann (David) Search and Richard (Pat) Boyd. Family will receive friends Friday, September 27, 2013 from 5-7 p.m. at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Rd., Columbus, where a family service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 28, 2013.
