Robert J. Cushman
1925 - 2007
Robert J. Cushman, age 81, a resident of McKee Road in Sunderland, died on Wednesday morning, October 24, 2007, at his home following a long illness.
Mr. Cushman was born in Lowell, MA on December 17, 1925. He was the son of the late Robert Wilcox Cushman and Molly Lowell (Judd) Cushman. He was a graduate of Moses Brown Prep School in Providence, RI.
Mr. Cushman also graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY with a degree in Architectural Engineering.
He had served with the Navy during World War II.
Following the war he went to work at American Express starting in 1948.
Mr. Cushman spent the first six years with American Express in Europe , managing their facilities there. He returned to the States and continued with American Express until his retirement in 1980.
Robert met his life partner, Ralph Thomas, in New York in 1975. They relocated to Dorset, VT in 1980 to Robert’s family home. Then in 1992, they moved to Sunderland, VT.
Robert enjoyed cooking, gardening, woodworking and entertaining.
There will be no services for Mr. Cushman. Interment will take place in the family lot in Maple Hill Cemetery in Dorset, VT.
