Robert J. Edwards
Retired NYC Sanitation Superintendent
As the sun was setting over the Sandia Mountains in Bernalillo, New Mexico, Robert John Edwards lost his long and courageous battle with cancer. Robert passed away on June 28, 2017; he was 70 years old. Born in Mariners Harbor, after marrying Carol Konig the two settled in Westerleigh. In 2009, he and Carol moved to Roswell, N.M. and then to Bernalillo, N.M.
He always wanted to work for the City of New York. His wish came true as he retired from the Sanitation Department after 20 years of service working first in Manhattan then at the former Fresh Kills Landfill and finally retiring from a post in Brooklyn. After his retirement from the Sanitation Department, Robert worked for the Postal Service.
He loved working around the house and had a knack for fixing things. He was a very loving and devoted father to his children, Bobby and Sherri. He is survived by his wife Carol of 46 years and two children, a son, Bobby and daughter, Sherri. He is also survived by two sisters, Marietta Rondinelli and Josephine Callahan, a brother, Nunzio Edwards Jr. and many nieces and nephews.
Cremation was handled by Riverside Funeral Home of Albuquerque, N.M. Many thanks for the compassionate care provided by the University of New Mexico Cancer Center and Kindred Hospice.
