Obituary

1957 - 2013

Robyn was born May 20, 1957 at RCAF Station Cold Lake Alberta...she fought a hard six year battle with cancer and was determined to beat it, but in the end was just too tired to fight any longer.

Robyn was predeceased by her grandparents. She is survived by her loving parents, Sally and Chuck, brother Mark (Spike), sister-in-law Katherine, nephew Charlie and niece Olivia who she loved so much….many relatives, aunts and uncles, cousins from B.C. to Nova Scotia, Scotland and England.

Robyn spent many years in Dayton, Ohio, first working for the Royal Air Force and then as a police officer at Sinclair College. She returned to Canada approximately eleven years ago to be closer to her family. Not being able to find suitable employment in the valley, she moved to Port McNeil to work for Vancouver Island Helicopters and then with the Mount Waddington Regional District where she was employed until having to leave on disability. While with the Regional District she took six month leave of absence and volunteered as a civilian employee in Kandahar, Afghanistan. She loved the adventure of travel and got away as often as she could.

Robyn had many friends in Port McNeil and the Comox Valley. She was a member of the Hope Afloat Dragon Boat team who supported her to the end. And being a lover of animals she often moved in and looked after dogs and cats so their "moms and dads" could go off on a worry free holiday. She was always available to lend a helping hand.

The family would like to thank Dr. Austen in the chemo dept., Dr. Cortez for always being there for her and to Barb Paulson and Bev Merrifield for going above and beyond to make sure she was so well taken care of both in Victoria and Comox, we don't know how we would have managed without you.

A Celebration of Life was held at Comox Valley Funeral Home, Cremation and Reception Centre, 1101 Ryan Rd., Courtenay, Friday, May 17, 2013 at 1PM. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing to make a donation in Robyn's memory, to either Kitty Kat Pals, P.O. Box 61, Lazo, B.C., V0R 2KO or the chemo department at St. Joseph's Hospital, 2137 Comox Ave., Comox, B.C., V9M 1P2 or charity of your choice would be appreciated.

Not sure what to say?

I shall never forget the trip that Robin, Helen and I took from base Borden to Dayton in the canary yellow car. Robin will always be a hard act to follow. Suzy

We will always remember the good times at Wright Patterson in the RAF Office. You will always be in our thoughts.

A bright light now in heaven but I'm sure you halo is not on quite straight. Gone but never forgotten, you were one of a kind.

Sally and Chuck: My thoughts are with you at this time. Take special care.

You are a wonderful person and I miss you.

Robyn and I worked together at Regional District of Mount Waddington and we soon became friends. She was our cat Mr Big's best ever nanny when we were away - and often said how she's like to live in our little house! She was a girl with many dreams, a generous heart and who had many many friends and many adventures! I will miss her, but am thankful she's not in pain and now in peace. RIP My Shopping Sistah!

Robyn,
You were a shining star here on the earth as well as in heaven now, we love you for your sense of humor and ability to overcome almost any obstacles. You were an earth angel and now are at home with the rest of the angels above. Godspeed my dear friend gone but never ever forgotten. Love you forever, you will always be a part of my heart.

I met Robyn when we were both part of a "007 Fashion Show" when the Regional District hosted a tourism workshop. I'll remember her zany sense of humour and big beautiful smile. We became penpals when she went to Afghanistan and she brought me back a gorgeous pashmina & cross necklace. I didn't know her well but through facebook & her sending guests to our b&b in Port McNeill I did know she had a generous and kind heart. My condolences to your family.
