Gwendolen (Gwen) Marguerite Spearman Parker, 86, of Holly Lake Ranch, passed away on Wednesday, December 17, 2014, in Tyle. Gwen was born August 27, 1926, in Rossburn, Canada to George and Mildred McKague Spearman.
She married James (Jim) Walker Parker in 1948 in Winnipeg, Canada. She and her beloved Jim immigrated to the United Sates in 1956 and settled in Dallas. They led a full life in Dallas where Gwen was an executive assistant to several business owners. Gwen and Jim purchased land at Holly Lake Ranch in 1973. From 1975 to 1978 they spent every weekend at Holly Lake Ranch building their retirement home. They lived there happily until Jim?s death in 1992 after 44 years of marriage.
Gwen worked for former state Representative Bob Glaze in Gilmer until her retirement. Her life was filled with volunteer work at Holly Community Library, Holly Lake Ranch blood drives, and playing games with friends. She became a naturalized citizen in 1999. Gwen moved to Tyler in 2012 where she lived until her death.
Gwen was predeceased by her husband, Jim, her parents, and her two sisters, Lauretta Spearman Tuttle and Gina Spearman Buddy, both of Winnipeg, Canada.
She is survived by nephews, Laurie Tuttle of Winnipeg, Canada and Morris McConnell of Mission, Canada.
A memorial service will be held January 8 at 2 p.m. at Holly Tree Chapel, 1620 South FM 2869, Holly Lake Ranch. The service will be conducted by Reverend Timothy Mink with a reception following.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Holly Community Library or Holly Tree Chapel will be appreciated.
