Rosemarie Quayle, 98, of Washington, died Thursday, August 22, 2019, mercifully, and peacefully went to be with her maker.
She was born in Washington, to Lugito (Louis) and Rosalia Capo (Capozzoli) Maccherol (Macchiarolla).
Rosemarie was educated at Washington High School, graduating in the class of 1936. She attended California Normal School (now, California University) for two years.
A powerful and athletic swimmer, she qualified for the United States Swim Team to compete in the 1936 Olympics in Berlin. Her parents refused to grant her permission to travel alone to Germany. She went on to teach swimming at the Washington YWCA for a number of years, before teaching her son and grandchildren how to swim. She swam recreationally deep into her 80's.
Mrs. Quayle spent 41 years in the employ of Fairmont Supply Company in various positions, retiring in the early 1990s.
During her life, she was involved in Washington Community Theatre, where she acted in shows with a number of local well-known Thespians. One of whom was Bob Jones, well-known for his roles in local theatre performances with various acting companies.
In her retirement, she would serve as a volunteer with the gift shop in Washington Hospital, until this past January.
Rosemarie was a life-long member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She was also involved in various civic organizations, among them, Washington Business & Professional Women and Symphony South.
On October 18, 1949, she married John Oliver Quayle, who preceded her in death on November 22, 1964.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Michael John Maccherol, and a sister, Angela Elaine Maccherol-Connor-Edmunds She is survived by a son, John Andrew Quayle (Denise); three cherished grandchildren, Valerie Marie Mazza (Matt) of Chartiers; John Patrick Quayle, of Pittsburgh; and Elizabeth Ann Quayle, of Washington, and a great-granddaughter, Rose Antonella Mazza, who was born a day before Rosemarie's birthday. Additionally, she leaves behind an adored cat, Kip. She will be missed by all who loved her.
Friends will be received on Monday, August 26, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in the William G. Neal Funeral Home, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, PA.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 27, in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 119 West Chestnut St., Washington.
Burial will follow in the Washington Cemetery.
