Harold W. Klein

Klein, Harold W., 84, born April 22, 1931, retired WPD Captain and USAF Korean War Veteran, passed away the afternoon of June 15, 2015. Harold joined the police force in Sept. of 1956, as an officer candidate, graduating in Nov. of that year. During his tenure as a police officer, he was promoted to Sergeant in mid to late 1963, Lieutenant on June 1, 1972, and Captain on March 4, 1974, before retiring on the 21st of Oct., 1975. As Chief Dispatcher, he was initially involved with the murders of the Otero family, which would eventually be associated with the serial killer, "BTK". Harold is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marjorie L. Klein; brother, Robert (Margaret) Klein; sister, Vicki (Albert) Saucedo; son, Gaylen W. (Jenny) Klein, USN (Ret); daughter, Susan K. (David) Klingenberg; grandchildren, Alex (Crystal) Klingenberg, Rachel Klingenberg, Melody Klein; and great-grandson, Caleb Klingenberg. Preceded in death by his parents, Cornelious (Bertha) Klein; step-mother, Vivian Klein; sisters, Lucille (Ern) Hett, Ruth (Ed) McGuiness; and brother, Kenneth Klein. Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 20, 2015, at 1 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church 3600 W. 2nd St. N Wichita, KS. Due to allergies, the family requests no flowers or plants, but a donation to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or the National Macular Degeneration Foundation in his name would be appreciated.
