Leona D. KirbyCorpus Christi, TXLeona D. Kirby, 96, of Corpus Christi, Texas, died December 22, 2013, at her home after a short illness. Born December 3, 1917, to Arthur and Mamie Noble on a small farm near Rosco, Texas, she was one of five girls who lived a simple but fun life. They all loved to sing and did so at every opportunity. Leona was an exceptionally loving, kind and multi-talented individual who spent her life as a homemaker, seamstress, crafter, gardener and child care provider - having cared for more than 25 children through the years that were the light of her life.She is survived by her daughter, Sherry Cruz of Corpus Christi, her son, Johnny Kirby and his wife, Cindy, of San Angelo, Texas, her sister, Jessie Headrick of Smithville, Texas, five grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Forest G. Kirby, her son, GJ 'Butch' Kirby, her grandson, Rex Vinyard, and three of her sisters. A special Thank You to Altus Hospice personnel and providers Debbie Trosper and Diana Rodriguez.Viewing will be on Friday, December 27, from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., with family visitation from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., at Cage-Mills Funeral Directors.
