ALMA CARTER Obituary

CARTER

Alma L. Carter of Arlington Texas, formerly of Plano, passed away on May 10, 2016 in Arlington Texas at the age of 89. Alma was born on July 14, 1926 in Doddridge Arkansas to Calvin and Bertha (Reed) Brown, one of 10 children. She married Jack B. Carter of Plano on December 26, 1963.

Mrs. Carter's life was filled with service to her community, her country and her God. She worked on the Land Acquisition Committee for Plano Parks and Collin County Long Range Planning Committee as Plano grew from a small town to a thriving metropolitan community. She was a delegate for the Republican National Convention in 1988 and was an active member of Republican Women for many years. She faithfully served First Presbyterian Church of Plano during her many years in Plano.

Alma was initiated into the Order of the Eastern Star in 1951 in Plano Chapter #703 and was also a member of TMRC Daylight Chapter #1145. She rose to the highest offices in the Grand Chapter of Texas, having served as a member of the Board of Directors, Grand Secretary, and Worthy Grand Matron.

She was a world traveler, having visited every continent on the globe. She loved to fish, enjoyed professional sports, loved tennis, and was an avid Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys fan.

Alma Carter is preceded in death by her husband, Jack Carter; daughter Jo Elaine Bell; daughter Jeannie Hinsley; parents and seven siblings. She is survived by her son, Mike Stinson and wife Joy of Merit Texas; grandson Jeff Bell and wife Karen of Mesquite; granddaughter Tracie Kirkey and husband Doug of Lewisville; granddaughter Wendy Hinsley of Hurst; 7 great grandchildren; stepsons Kent Carter and family of Dallas; Keith Carter and family of Dallas; stepdaughter Karen Carter Proctor and family of Dallas; sisters Rae Lummus of Arlington and Grace Roberson of Hooks Texas; numerous nieces and nephews and loved ones.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church of Plano, followed by burial at Plano Mutual Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday evening, May 13, 2016 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Ted Dickey Funeral Home, located at 2128 18th Street, Plano, TX.

Alma was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church of Plano since 1974, ordained an Elder in 1977, and a dedicated servant of God. We thank God for her ministry. Alma was a wonderful woman, who will be dearly missed by her family and church family.
