Not sure what to say?

I am sorry to learn of Rufus' death. The world has lost another unique member of the Lumry family. I only met Rufus once for lunch in Mnpls. We did speak on the phone a few times and he always made me smile.

I believe that he was a 1st cousin to my dad, Carl Lumry, son of Wm Rufus Lumry. I am also happy that my cousin Mark Lumry was able to be there for the service and to meet his family.

Some yeas ago I spent three years of my life as a post-doc for the One of a Kind Man and that experience influenced greatly the rest of my life as an academician. In essence, I learnt not to smoke cigar, but hustle graduate students and post docs, always ask a lot of questions and above all stay away from becoming the departmental chair if you wish to keep the order in your department. I have kept in touch with him and have a very fondly memory of him. A great loss….

Rufus was my mentor and guide . He was inspiring and a lot of fun. A great scientist!

You were a dear friend and buddy through the years. I will miss you and our weekly chats. I have such fond memories of you. Rest in peace and know you are missed each and every day.

Rufus was a dear friend of my parents Robert L. and Savetta Livingston. Growing up I remember many dinner parties of the chemistry dept. @ our house. Rufus was always the engaging one and impressed me in my growing up. His office in the chem. building was the meeting place for students and fellows. Rufus attended weddings of Robert's 2 youngest grandchildren. His bubblling personality and wisdom was always enjoyed by all of Robert and Savetta's 5 grandchildren. Heaven will a more colorful...

God bless you, Prof!

Celebrating a life well lived. We will cherish the memories forever.

He was definitely one of a kind. I remember being about 10 years old and I answered the phone and said mom, there is a weird guy on the phone for you. She said hello and laughed when she found out it was Rufe.
