Mundwiler & Larson Funeral Homes - Milbank Obituary

Russell Bohn, age 89, of Twin Brooks, SD passed away March 12, 2012, at the Ortonville Hospital. Funeral services will be Friday, March 16th at 2:30 p.m. at Mundwiler Funeral Home. Father Gary DeRouchey will officiate and burial will be in the St. Lawrence Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 – 7 p.m. at Mundwiler Funeral Home, and continue on Friday, one hour prior to the service. A prayer service will be held Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion, Birch Miller Post #9 and the VFW, Grant County Post #3486. Music will be provided by Tim Mundwiler. Honorary bearers will be: John Gustafson, Ron Giessinger, Ron Borns, and Jeff Bunting. Casket bearers will be: Jason Bohn, Shawn Bohn, Daren Schultz, Russell Bohn, Richard Bohn, Chris Fouquette, and Perry Porath. Russell Milton Bohn was born May 22, 1922, in Twin Brooks, SD. He was the son of John and Hilda (McCloskey) Bohn. He attended school at Twin Brooks. Russell served in the United States Army during World War II, enlisting on September 21, 1942. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal, and three Overseas Service Bars. He was honorably discharged on December 18, 1945. He served in the South Dakota National Guard, 740th Transportation Company from 1953-1957. Russell was united in marriage with Florence Sullivan on April 7, 1947, in Milbank, SD. Russell farmed with his father for a few years. He worked for various construction companies. He was a truck driver, hauling cement and gravel. He was always seen with an unlit cigar in his mouth. He and Florence always enjoyed watching local sporting events. He also enjoyed gardening and playing Bingo. Russell Bohn is survived by five children: Arlin (Beverly) Bohn of Twin Brooks, SD; Billy (Sherry) Bohn of Peru, Indiana; Danny (Glenda) Bohn of Milbank, SD; Ricky Bohn of Sioux Falls, SD; Leila Bohn of Twin Brooks, SD; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Hilda; his wife, Florence; one daughter, Trela; three brothers and two sisters.
