I first met Ruth Stewart 50 years ago, in the early 1960's, when I was a student-athlete at Roosevelt High School and she was a coach at Southwest. As a high school athlete, I respected her and we became good friends many years later as University of Minnesota alumnae. Ruth is a beloved alumna of the College of Education and Human Development at the University of MInnesota. I work there, and I was the person who recruited Ruth to sit on the alumni society board. She was truly a treasure. I also worked with her to create a scholarship - along with her high school friends from Marshall High - to help students living with disabilities receive funds to attend the U of M. Ruth became my sister/friend when we moved into Summit Place. She became a part of our family, and we love her deeply. Condolences to her family. You are in our prayers. Louise Blackard.

Ruth mentored many aspiring young women as a teacher and a role model. She inspired me and my friends to seek professions that would help others and to continue to contribute to society. Her warm and gentle manner was always comforting and reassuring.
