Candles From Neighbors
In some quarters of New York City, residents have an unwritten code about how to treat their neighbors: Ignore them. But not Sean Canavan. He was one of the friendliest, most helpful people in his neighborhood, said his sister, Kathleen McKeon. The yellow ribbons, thick bouquets of flowers and white candles outside of his apartment house in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, are testament. Neighbors placed them there when they heard he was missing.

"Everybody who knew Sean loved him," Mrs. McKeon said.

Mr. Canavan, 39, a carpenter, was working for the second day at Installation Resources on the 98th floor in the south tower. He was always helping relatives, friends and neighbors with repairs and renovations. Last summer, Mr. Canavan helped his sister and her husband to build a deck on her two-story colonial house in Rockland County. He also put mahogany floors in her family room. "Now, the family room has extra meaning," Mrs. McKeon said.

R.I.P. Sean, You will be missed and remembered forever.

I can't believe it's the 20th anniversary. You were my adopted big brother in Brooklyn. Kind, reliable, funny & talented and always smiling and ready to share freely. A pure gent! Thank you for teaching me so much! Thinking of all your family on this tragic milestone!

I can’t believe it’s been 20 years since I’ve seen you. You would be so proud of Ciaran this week. You are so missed and very loved. Our family will never be the same without you.
