Sharon Kelley Obituary

KELLEY Sharon Kelley On April 7th, 2014 our dear Sharon, (Lois Sharon McCormick Kelley) returned home to the arms of her Savior Jesus. Sharon was born in Independence, Missouri on August 2,1938 to Jay and Lorene McCormick, the third of five children. She attended Chrisman High School, where she enjoyed leading the cheer-leading squad and building life-long friendships. Sharon attended Graceland College, where she met the love of her life, Dan B. Kelley. The two were married in 1958 and moved to Stillwater, OK where she graduated from Oklahoma State University with a teaching degree. The couple started a family soon after, and enjoyed every minute of raising their two daughters. After sojourns in Denver and Omaha, the family settled in Houston, Texas. Sharon was the essence of a Southern lady. She loved cooking and taking care of her family. She was active in her church, civic life and in many charities. Sharon took great delight in entertaining and was an amazing hostess. In 1988, Sharon and Dan moved to Mandeville, LA. where they made many wonderful friends, were active in church and loved singing in the choir. She loved hosting visiting friends and family and introducing them to the beauty of Southern Louisiana. Her family and friends were the joy of her life. Sharon was the essence of graciousness, kindness and warmth. She radiated love and enthusiasm for life. She was never without an opinion; she made us laugh; and she loved to make things beautiful. She will be greatly missed by her family, beloved husband, Dan Kelley (Mandeville, LA), daughters and sons in law, Art and Dana Neville (Fair Oaks, CA) and Jimmie and Lori Day (Houston, TX), her grandchildren, Patrick and Laura Neville, Hayley and Carter Day, as well as her sisters and brother, many nieces and nephews, and countless friends. We will be forever grateful for the outpouring of love and support given to our family during these last two years of this difficult illness. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to two of Sharon's favorite charities, Wounded Warriors or Campus Crusade for Christ. A celebration of her life will be held at New Covenant Presbyterian Church (Mandeville, LA) Monday, April 21, 2014, 2:00pm.

Aunt Sharon will always be one of my most beloved friends, and I'll miss her for the rest of her life. She always treated me so wonderfully, even when I knew that our opinions were at dramatic odds.

She raised THE most wonderful daughters, and was an inspiration to many, MANY people. I recently heard from a Graceland "Crescent" sister how much she had admired, and tried to emulate, Sharon.

Godspeed, beloved aunt. I'll see you in heaven!

I feel so blessed to have met Mrs. Sharon when she first came to the Cancer Center. She was such an example of what faith and trust really mean. My prayer is that all of the family and friends remember what a shining light she shared. May you have peace in knowing you are blessed with your own angel.

Sharon's loving spirit was always a joy to behold. Her love for Christ was unwavering, and her strength was amazing. Her love for her family and everyone around her was truly an inspiration. Upon talking to her, it was hard to leave without feeling uplifted by her genuine concern, compassion, and eternal love for our Savior. It seemed she was an angel here on Earth. Now she is singing with the angels in Heaven encircling God's throne. Her smile will be missed by everyone. To Dan, her children, and her grandchildren may you be comforted by knowing that Sharon was truly happy in life, and she was a blessing to many.

Dan and family, I was so shocked to hear of Sharon's death. She was such a good singer and added so much to the Deci-Belles chorus when she was part of our membership in the 80s. Please know that she was loved. I am thinking of you all.

Sharon was a wonderful singer with the Deci-Belles for some years in the '80s. We truly enjoyed her membership and friendship when she and Dan/kids were in Houston. I was so sorry to hear that she had died. Our love to the family!

Dan & Family....I loved siting in church and watching Sharon sing. She told the story of Jesus in her voice wit her facial expressions with such a beautiful sincerity...and today she is singing with the angels. May your wonderful memories with Sharon give you peace.

Dan, Dana, Lori and families, I was so saddened to the core to hear Sharon has left us, however, joyous she is out of pain and with sweet Jesus! I have so many memories of her "fresh" from Nebraska our next door neighbor and "other" Mom. She was always so loving and kind to April and I. I loved her full of gusto laugh, her patience (teaching us to sit still and cross-stitch), learning about healthy foods way before it was "in" (though I am still "scarred" from the beef tongue), a cool mom letting Dana keep a small alligator until he grew to big for the tub (sleepovers were minimal during that time - that gator might escape), her zest for life - birthdays and celebrations, antiques and their stories. We went to church with gardenias in our hair from her yard. I remember Dan and Sharon going for nightly walks in the neighborhood hand-in-hand. Sweet, sweet memories of a remarkable and loving Mom and I am blessed to have had her in my life.

I remember Sharon's smile, her laugh, genuine concern, her kindness and strength. She always made us kids feel welcome in her home. We corresponded a few times over the years and loved talking about her family. Dan, words are fleeting right now, but know that my prayers are with you. Dana and Lori, my heart breaks for you - in time, pain gives way to peace. She has left all of you with wonderful memories and traditions. Love you all. Cathy

Oh, this breaks my heart. From 4th grade, Sharon was the friend who always had a smile for an awkward social misfit of a girl. Visits I should have made got put off by things I now know were less important, but Sharon's friendship never wavered.
Blessings on you, Dan and Dana and Lori and all the grandchildren and siblings and cousins as you deal with her passing. We were all specially blessed to know and love her.
