Ms. Sharon Denise Wynn Shaw departed this life Wednesday, November 17, 2021 in Kenner Louisiana at Oschner Medical Center. Born October 24, 1957 to the late John Nelson Wynn and Eunice Patterson Wynn in Petersburg, Virginia; she and her brother, the late John N. Wynn II, were lovingly reared by her paternal grandmother the late Annie Wynn White. Sharon was also predeceased by her aunt, Ruth M. Jefferson.

Sharon was educated in Petersburg Public Schools graduating from Petersburg High School as a member of the Class of 1976. She joined the United States Navy and served her country proudly for 13 years where she received an honorable discharge. After leaving the U.S. Navy Sharon was employed by Lockheed Martin in Kingsville, Texas, she later relocated to New Orleans, Louisiana, where she was employed by Frosty Treat.

In 1990, Sharon met her life partner Mursel Carter and in 2014 they jointly opened South Pole Ice Cream following in the entrepreneurial footsteps of her grandmother. Sharon was a hardworking, free spirited person who lived life to the fullest and never missed the opportunity to tell everyone just how much she loved them. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and cheering on her football team; the Miami Dolphins

Left to cherish her memory are her loving and devoted life partner of 27 years, Mursel Carter of Kenner, LA; loving and devoted daughter, Jessica Wynn (Christopher) of Lafayette, LA; stepson, Keyundray “Scooter” Harris and stepdaughter, Tyuna Harris both of Baton Rouge, LA; devoted aunt, Dr. Annie Neal (Carl) of Nashville, TN; special sister, Linda Darden of Ettrick, VA; sister-in-law, Carol Wynn of Milton, FL; brother-in-law, Marshall Carter of Baton Rouge, LA; step-mother, Lola K Wynn; step-brothers, Terrance Bennett (Christie), Kalvin and Lee Wright of Baxley, GA; nephews, John N Wynn III (Nikki) of San Diego, CA; Aaron Darden of Ettrick, VA; nieces, Sophia Hawkins-Hill (Joshua) of Pensacola, FL, Angelique Gholson of Milton, FL, and Omissa Darden of Ettrick, VA; great nieces, Jade Wynn and Chrys Slaughter and great nephews, Liam Wynn and Dontae Thorne; devoted cousins, Eldred C. Neal and Elliott Neal of Atlanta, GA; Deborah Graham, Shakira Graham, Camille Graham and Nanice Burrow; loving cousin, Joyce J. Noel (George) of Petersburg VA.  Also left to cherish her memory is the family of Bobby Young (her late husband) and the Birdsong Family; devoted friends, Cheryl Young Douglas; sister-in-law and friend in Pittsburgh, PA, and Renata Kennedy Graham of Chester, VA, Wanda Donnell and Vanessa Embry Bazemore both of Petersburg, VA. Sharon loved the Class of 1976 of Petersburg High School, she cherished many of her classmates and had a host of friends from school she kept in contact with.

Services will be held 11:00 A.M., Saturday, December 4, 2021 at the Chapel of J. M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment, Inc., 102 South Avenue, Petersburg, VA, the Rev. Neal Young, eulogist.  The interment to follow at the Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery, Blackstone.

Remembering you at our last class reunion. You was truly happy to see everyone We talked and shared so many of our good times from school days. And most important of it all, we were born around the same time. Yours October 24th and mines October 31st and the same year. My parents new your parents and family. I remember all of the times that my father took me to your grandmother custard stand for our treats. You took up her legacy. I will miss you and your smiley face and laughter...

Last saw Sharon at a Class of 1976 Class Reunion. That's why they are so important. She was so loving and had the biggest smile on her face when seeing everyone. Sending sincere condolences and prayers to the family. Gone too soon Mate!!!! RIP!!! #76
