Not sure what to say?

Words feel so inadequate at a time like this. Please know our hearts ache, too, as we give you our deepest sympathy. Love to you all, Helen Tracey, Eddie and Nanci Utay in Dallas, Texas.

I am so very sorry to hear of Sheyl's passing. I met her in college where she trained me for the peer counseling hotline. She was a truly joyful person with a beautiful heart. I have no doubt of all the brightness she shone into the world around her. I am sure she is still shining down on us now.

Sheryl was so brave in facing this deadly disease and handled it with courage and grace. Sandy and Steve, I hope you find some comfort in all she did for so many as a social worker and with victims of domestic violence. I continue to hold you both and Justin in the light. With love, Janet

Cheryl was my sister's close friend from graduate school whom I've always liked and admired - especially for the exceptional kindness she radiated. I was crushed to learn the news. This disease is brutal and devastating beyond words. I am so, so sorry for everyone involved.

Sheryl once said that if she died she didn't want people to say that she lost her battle with cancer. Those words are now clear to me for cancer never crippled her love of life. It never silenced her courage. It never suppressed her humor. Nor can it take away our memories of the most amazing person that one will ever meet. Cancer took her body but not her spirit which will be with us always.

I have such wonderful memories of Sheryl coming to my house for dinners and game nights, sitting at my table or by the pool laughing. These are the moment I will cherish. Her smile lit up the room. And she was still smiling like a beacon when I saw her a few months ago. Sheryl is the very definition of dignity and grace.

And in the end...the love you take is equal to the love you make. Sheryl made and gave the world a lot of love: the best legacy of all.

I wish I'd met Sheryl under different circumstances, but I am so grateful to have met her nonetheless. I worked as a nurse on 5N at RWJUH.

She was and is such a bright soul and we shared many interesting conversations together. I am sorry to hear that she has passed, my prayers are with her family and friends. She truly made an impression on me, as I'm sure she has on others.

May you rest peacefully,
Jessica L. Susan

My sincere condolences to the Nichols/Lanman families. My daughter went to high school with Sheryl and played soccer with her a long time ago. I am saddened by your loss.
