Stanley William Dampier, passed away, Monday, August 25, 2025.
Beloved husband of Kathy Dampier (nee Evans). Brother of Sandi (Richard) Shapley and Bob (Julie) Dampier. Uncle of Richard (Katie) Shapley, Andrew (Ashley) Shapley, Ashley (Lee) Jones, Abby (Brian) Katz, Cole Evans, and Katie Evans. Brother-in-law of Tom Evans, John Evans, and Heather Taylor. Dear great uncle, cousin, and friend of many. Stan was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley Vouga Dampier and Beulah Dampier.
Stan was born in St. Louis and grew up in Eureka, Missouri. He graduated from Eureka High School and attended Southeast Missouri State University. Stan was drafted into the Army in 1966 and served as a medic during the Vietnam War. After returning home from his military service in 1968, Stan completed his education and earned a bachelor’s degree. He then made his career in the steel industry, where he worked for over 40 years.
Stan found great pleasure in life spending time outdoors enjoying nature, gardening, and fishing. Another true passion was studying Native American artifacts. During an excavation project for a levy in Chesterfield Valley, Stan was instrumental in discovering artifacts from an ancient civilization buried deep below the earth's surface. It was a 1000 year old buried Mississippian Market and Ceremonial Center on the Missouri River Bottoms. Because of Stan's discovery, the site was named by archeologists as the "Dampier Site" in 2010.
Stan and Kathy were happily married and approaching their 41st wedding anniversary in October. Stan loved his family, friends, and country. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wounded Warrior Project or Tunnel to Towers Foundation. A special thanks to the staff at Missouri Veteran's Home and Evelyn's House, for Stan's wonderful care.
Services: A memorial visitation will be held at the SCHRADER Funeral Home and Crematory, 14960 Manchester Road at Holloway, Ballwin, MO 63011, on Thursday, September 11, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A memorial service will be conducted in the funeral home chapel, Friday, September 12, at 9:00 a.m. The interment will follow in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery with full military honors.

Kathy, I´m so sorry for the loss of your beloved husband Stan. He and my brother Mike were good friends for a very long time. I know firsthand sadly what is in store for you. My sister-in-law, Chris Montgomery and many other friends will be a comfort for you. Just know how fortunate you are to have had so much time with happy memories together. Best Pat Palazzolo

Kathy ,
Everyone I think of Stan this big smile comes over my face !
From the Time he was giving me Votka martini’s over the fence or yelling to Nick to run while I was trying to come to live out of his hair . I always felt the love when i got hugs from him .
I’m sending you so much love and hugs . You’ve been an amazing wife all these years . I know he knew that !

My condolences. I wonder if Stan used to live in Oakland MO across from my parents house. This would’ve been around 1975 1977.
