ADAMS CENTER, NY - Stephen A. Casion, 73, Adams Center, formerly of Watertown, passed away at St. Josephs Hospital in Syracuse following a brief illness.
The funeral mass will be 11 am Saturday, June 22nd, 2024, at St. Cecilias Church, 17 Grove St., Adams. NY. Burial will follow in the St. Cecilia’s Cemetery, Town of Henderson. Calling hours will be Friday, June 21st from 3pm – 7pm at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home, 632 State St., Watertown.
Stephen is survived by his wife, Terre, Adams Center; four daughters, Jessica (Doug) Auyer, Clay, Stephanie (Steven) Widrick, Adams, Susan (Carl) Jackson, Lafayette, NY, René Casion, Syracuse; his grandchildren, Lucy and William Auyer, Nolan, Reese and Evan Widrick, Ashley, Allyson and Alexandra Stever, Bobby, Kayla, Nicole and Emily Backes; four great grandchildren; three brothers, Jack (Sharon) Casion, Kirkville, James (Mary) Casion, Buffalo, David (Linda) Casion, East Syracuse; his sister, Cecilia (David) Lizzi, Syracuse; many nieces, nephews and cousins; a step-son, William (Sara) Gelling, Mooresville, NC and their two children, Willow and Jack. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Ellen, and brother, Joseph.
Stephen was born in Syracuse July 1, 1950, a son to John and Ellen Pelletier Casion. He graduated from East Syracuse Minoa (ESM). Stephen served as an officer for the New York State Department of Corrections, retiring at the Dry Hill facility in 2012 after 32 years of service. He also helped his dear friends, the Roukous family for 17 years at Home Deli.
Stephen married Terre Tooker Gelling December 12th, 2012.
Stephen was a communicant of St Cecilia’s Church. He was a member of the Watertown Elks and was a New York Yankee and Syracuse University sports fan. He was a basketball official for several years in the Frontier League.
Stephen was a loving husband, father, brother and Grampy. Family was most important to him, and you could always find him attending one of the many sporting events/activities of his grandchildren, including dance recitals, soccer, basketball, baseball, and lacrosse games, showing unwavering support for family both near and far. He loved all Gods creatures both big and small and had a loving, generous and giving spirit. He had a fantastic sense of humor and was a master of the “one liner.”
Memorial contributions may be made to the Jefferson County SPCA or to St. Cecilia’s Church.
